"The Price of Sex" profiles the forgotten Eastern European women who have been drawn into the netherworld of sex trafficking and abuse. It is a story told by young women who were supposed to be silenced by shame, fear and violence.

Photojournalist Mimi Chakarova, who grew up in Bulgaria, takes us on a personal investigative journey, exposing the shadowy world of sex trafficking from the isolated farms of Eastern Europe to the crowded brothels of the Middle East and Western Europe. Filming undercover and gaining extraordinary access, Chakarova gives voice to women who have escaped the illicit sex trade and are brave enough to tell their stories.

In this excerpt, Jenea details how she left her rural village in Moldova to work as a housekeeper abroad, only to wind up as a virtual prisoner in a foreign brothel, forced to work as a prostitute.
